In the land of skyscapers: Hong Kong

In the land of skyscrapers the future is a frequent visitor. Between majestic, tall buildings and traditional cuisine, you feel like if you have just visited another planet. Hong Kong was a first stop in my intercontinental trip. Frankly speaking, sometimes it seemed like a tour in a different universe. Since it wasn’t my first trip to Hong Kong, I knew exactly what to expect. The settings were familiar and determining what I would like to see was relatively easy. What did I see in Hong Kong and why the food scene there is one to due for? More about it below!

5 do’s and don’ts of accessible traveling

5 do's and don'ts of accessible traveling, accessible travel, travel in an electric wheelchair

The art of accessible travel is not impossible to master, but it requires a lot of caution, good planning skills and a pinch of patience. It’s definitely learnable – especially with the help of others! All of I know comes from my own personal experience, mainly travel mistakes. Nothing’s a better teacher than life itself, but when it comes to accessibility…  it’s better to be safe than sorry and learn from somebody else’s mistakes! I am more than willing to share my knowledge about accessible traveling. After all, accessibility can either break or make your trip, but you can use it to your own advantage. What to avoid, what to remember about when you travel with a wheelchair? More about it below!

5 most difficult places to navigate – unless you’re on Blumil!

I’ve never been the one to shy away from the traveling challenges, but my wheelchairs used to be more likely to withdraw from the traveling game. On hills of Lisbon, between beautiful buildings of Budapest and lovely streets of Prague, there were moments when my wheelchair simply needed to live up to the challenge of a very difficult terrain.

Traveling diaries: Berlin rediscovered

Berlin rediscovered, accessibility in Berlin, Germany, wheelchair friendly tourism, electric wheelchair

Sometimes I fall in love with cities at first sight. Boom, the first time I set my eyes on the streets, I know they will take my breath away. Sometimes, though, I am not quite as amazed. Relaxed? Liking the place? Yes! Blown away? Not really. It’s natural to like some cities more than others, but discovering magic in something you’ve deemed “regular” feels absolutely amazing. Berlin’s vibe didn’t really capture my heart when I saw it years ago, but I was left surprised and impressed with this city, once I gave it one more chance. I attended IFA – Consumer Electronics Fair – this September and had a chance to explore Berlin again. It turned out that first impressions aren’t everything, after all! Below I’ll show you around Berlin I liked so much – vibrant and racing towards the future.

The city on the hill: Lisbon

Lisbon, the city on the hill, accessible traveling, travel with an electric wheelchair

The city on the hills – Lisbon – almost became my travel “the-one-that-got-away”. I visited the city once upon a time, but it didn’t charm me like I thought I would. All I could remember was how Lisbon was anything but wheelchair friendly, especially that I didn’t have my Blumil electric wheelchair then. With passing time, however, something was telling me there’s more to the city than what I noticed. When my friend, a local living in Lisbon, offered to show me his Lisbon, the charming capital I was yet to discover, I packed my bags and gave the Portuguese capital one more chance. That’s one definitely one of the best travel decisions I’ve made. The city, and the country, I was exploring alongside my friend, is an epitome of beauty. I was blown away by amazing nature, architecture, and food. What did I do and see? How accessible is Lisbon? The answers are waiting below!

Flying in the Blumil style

Flying in the Blumil style, flying with an electric wheelchair, accessible traveling

Flying in the Blumil style is all about experiencing the freedom, and defying the limits. For many people, accessible traveling seems like nothing but a beautiful dream – wonderful in theory, impossible in practice. Things couldn’t be further from the truth. Is every travel destination accessible? Absolutely not. Is wheelchair friendly traveling possible? Absolutely yes! Throughout the years, I’ve visited numerous places (South Africa, Shanghai, USA, Spain, and Kenya to name a few)  with my wheelchair alongside, and I had a wonderful time. Since Blumil entered my life, traveling has become easier. Sometimes I have to be extremely careful, sometimes numerous bumps in pavement give me a headache, but the abundance of wonders I stumble upon makes up for every inconvenience.  As flying is often the best travel option, I would like to share my experience of flying… in the Blumil style! Things you should know, procedures to remember, tips to make life easier – everything’s waiting for you below!

Under the Eiffel Tower: Paris

Accessible travel, Paris, France, travel in an electric wheelchair, electric wheelchair, wheelchair friendly cities

Under the Eiffel Tower, the world stops for a second.  I’d wanted to see Paris for as long as I can remember and once I was there with my electric wheelchair, just in front of the Eiffel Tower, it hit me: I made it to Paris. Cliché? Maybe. A wonderful travel destination? Most definitely! The French capital has been an iconic city for years, and there are definitely good reasons behind it. After all, as the month’s pass, nothing changes under the Eiffel Tower: people come and go, but there’s always somebody admiring the view and whispering “Oh My Paris!”. That’s kind of magic I wanted to experience on my own skin.  Wandering around the city and soaking up the atmosphere I found beauty all around me. On crowded streets and in small cafés – Parisian charm would never fade away. I may not be an expert on Paris, but I would love to take you on a tour… straight to Paris I loved so much! What to do, what to see and how accessible the City of Lights actually is for manual and electric wheelchairs? More about it below!
